ABAO Bilbao Opera and the University of Deusto have signed a collaboration agreement extending access to opera programming, training, and cultural activities for the university’s students, staff, and community.

Under the agreement, the University of Deusto will offer ABAO members benefits to support their participation in educational activities run by DeustoBide, the university’s citizenship school. ABAO will in turn offer Deusto students and staff discounted rates on its 75th season, including membership subscriptions and individual tickets. Participants in DeustoBide’s “Disfrutar las artes” program will also receive an annual backstage visit to one of the season’s productions.

The agreement was signed by ABAO Bilbao Opera President Juan Carlos Matellanes and University of Deusto Rector Juan José Etxeberria, extending a partnership between the two institutions that spans more than 15 years.

The agreement also includes an educational component during which ABAO will facilitate participation by opera professionals, including artists, musicians, and production staff, in academic activities, university sessions, and institutional events. The two organizations will jointly organize lectures, workshops, and outreach programs, building on existing initiatives such as the “El ABC de la ópera” series.
