ABAO Bilbao Ópera closes its seventy-first season with Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.” The show will run May 20, 23, 26, and 29, 2023 at the Euskalduna Bilbao.

Soprano Anna Pirozzi stars. Joining her will be mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk, tenor Celso Albelo and baritone Juan Jesús Rodríguez.

Maestro Francesco Iván Ciampa will be on the podium.

The production will be directed by Lorenzo Mariani, inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal.”

Additionally, the performances will coincide with the “Verdi Congress for the Ages: Past, Present and Future.” This event brings together major Verdi experience to explore, discuss, reflect on, and debate the work of the famed composer. It will take place on May 27-29 at the Bizkaia Aretoa of the Universidad del País Vasco. It will be free for live attendees and will also be streamed.

Among those participating are Roberta Montemorra (University of Massachusetts), Alessandro Roccatagliati (Universidad de Ferrara) and Víctor Sánchez Sánchez (Universidad Complutense Madrid). They will led by Francesco Izzo (University of Southampton).
