ABAO Bilbao Opera Announces Financial Updates for 2023-24 & 2024-25 Seasons

ABAO Bilbao Opera has announced the approval of its budget for the 2024-25 season and the results of the 2023-24 season.

Per an official press release, the General Assembly of the ABAO Bilbao Opera approved, with 99 percent of the votes, the results presented regarding the 2023-24 season. Per the information presented, the company had approximately 7.7 million euros of revenue and estimated expenditures of 7.8 million euros, a deficit of approximately 170,000 euros. The deficit more than 50 percent better than expected and the company is calling the 72nd season an “artistic and economic success.”

Regarding the 2024-25 season, 98 percent of the assembly voted for an estimated 8.5 million euros of expenditure with a deficit of about 490,500 euros.

“We find ourselves in a decisive year for ABAO Bilbao Opera from an economic standpoint,” said Juan Carlos Matellanes, the president of the Assembly,  adding that it was essential to substantially reduce the deficit through public support. “We have to continue betting on the artistic quality because we are an organization inspired by excellence, that from a private initiative, promotes a cultural and social project that is sustainable.”
