San Francisco Opera Launches ‘Opera Aficionado’ Discussion Series

San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Community has announced a new, virtual discussion series titled “Opera Aficionado.”

Held via Zoom in August and September, the series will focus on the San Francisco Opera Center, where young artists are trained, and the three operas to be presented at the War Memorial Opera House for the company’s 2021 Fall Season: “Tosca,” “Fidelio,” and “Cosi fan tutte.”

San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Community has announced a series of interactive talks focused on the company’s 2021 fall season.

First up will be “Tosca by the Bay,” an exploration of the famed Puccini Opera and its relationship to San Francisco Opera. Kip Cranna will host.

Performance Date: August 8, 2021

Cole Thomason-Redus and Kip Cranna wil interview soprano Leah Crocetto in “A Conversation with Leah Crocetto.”

Performance Date: August 15, 2021

Carrie-Ann Matheson, Markus Beam, and Jean Kellogg will speak as part of “A Spotlight on San Francisco Opera Center.”

Performance Date: August 22, 2021

For those interested in the process of putting together a new season, “Putting it all Together: How to Build a Season of Opera” will provide them with that behind-the-scenes insight.

Performance Date: Sept. 12, 2021

Aria Umezawa will lead a conversation on the woman’s perspective of “Così fan tutte.”

Performance Date: Sept. 19, 2021

Michael Bragg will lead a survey of Beethoven’s “Fidelio.”

Performance Date: Sept. 26, 2021
