Sonya Yoncheva Cancels New Year’s Concert
By Francisco SalazarSonya Yoncheva has canceled her New Year’s concert with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande on Jan. 8 and 9, 2025.
The soprano took to social media and said, “Over the past few weeks, I haven’t been feeling well and have been struggling with colds. Unfortunately, I’m now back in bed with the flu, fever, and a severe cough. Sadly, this means I won’t be able to sing in the New Year’s concerts with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande today and tomorrow. Canceling a performance or concert is never an easy decision, and I’m truly sorry not to be able to appear in Geneva and Lausanne. Thank you and all the best to Juliana Grigoryan, who will be stepping in for me at these concerts.
The orchestra said, “She is replaced by Mrs. Juliana Grigoryan whom we warmly thank for having been able to make herself available with the majority of the planned program.”
Grigoryan will perform alongside Dmitry Korchak and conductor Jonathan Nott. They will perform music by Bizet, Donizetti, Dvorák, Puccini, Rossini, and Verdi. The concerts will be recorded and broadcast as part of the Plein jeu program.
Yoncheva returns to the stage on Jan. 29 for a concert at the Mozartwoche, Salzburg, Austria.
