Metropolitan Opera to Present ‘The Magic Flute’ in HD for Holiday Season

The Metropolitan Opera is set to showcase its first-ever high-definition transmission into cinemas.
The company will show Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” in select cinemas for the holiday season as part of the 2024–25 Live in HD season. The encore will be shown in select U.S. theaters on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. local time, with dates varying internationally in Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Spain, and Sweden.
The Met’s abridged, English-language version of Mozart’s fairy-tale opera features Julie Taymor’s production and stars tenor Matthew Polenzani as Tamino, soprano Ying Huang as Pamina, baritone Nathan Gunn as Papageno, soprano Erika Miklósa as the Queen of the Night and bass René Pape as Sarastro.
Gary Halvorson directed the Live in HD presentation for cinemas, which was originally transmitted live on December 30, 2006.
