On Sept. 29 during the second performance of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Teatro Colón de A Coruña, Ramón Vargas gave an encore of “Una furtiva Lagrima.”

Vargas gave an encore following a huge ovation.

The Mexican received raved reviews for his performance with Opera Actual stating, “Ramón Vargas, a referential tenor; he maintains the color and exudes a phrasing of many carats,” while Bachtrack said,”Ramón Vargas led the cast… his instrument seems to have been preserved with some magical elixir, as Vargas showed an excellent vocal level, a timbre that over the years has gained a more serious and majestic color, but always full of musicality.”

Vargas was joined by a cast that included Ruth Iniesta, Damián del Castillo, and Luis Cansino.

Vargas has been recognized for his Golden toned tenor for years and has performed the role of Nemorino to great acclaim throughout the world including the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera.
