The Maria Callas biopic, “Maria” is set to have its U.S. premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

In a statement to People Magazine regarding Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt potentially meeting at the Venice Film Festival, Venice Artistic Director Alberto Barbera said, “Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday [Aug.] 29, and she will leave right after with [Maria director] Pablo Larraín to go to Telluride [Film Festival].

“Maria” is slated to make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and has also been confirmed to make its New York premiere at the New York Film Festival. While Telluride Film Festival has not officially announced its lineup as it announces a few days before the festival kicks off, Larrain’s previous films, “Spencer” and “El Conde have all played at the Colorado festival.

“Maria” is set in Paris, September 1977, during the final week of her life and follows the legendary soprano as she negotiates her public image and private self and reckons with the increasingly blurred boundaries between the venerated “La Divina” and the vulnerable human being Maria. The movie also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Valeria Golino.

The film is still searching for U.S. distribution.
