The Teatro San Carlo has announced a cast change for its opening night of Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company said, “We inform our audience that, due to a sudden illness of Lisette Oropesa, the role of Violetta Valéry, for the première of ‘La Traviata,’ on stage on July 14, 2024, will be performed by Marina Rebeka.”

Oropesa took to social media and said, “I’m sorry that I have to cancel the first performance of ‘La Traviata’ this Sunday in Naples. I haven’t been feeling well for a week, and I went to a doctor and am following his advice for treatment and rest. I hope to be able to heal well to be able to sing the next performances of Violetta. Thanks for your understanding, friends.”

She is set to join a cast that includes Kang Wang and Luca Salsi. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the production by Lorenzo Amato.

“La Traviata” opens on July 14 and runs through July 30, 2024.
