The Metropolitan Opera is set to celebrate the holiday season with its production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”

The company will present the work 13 times performances between December 8–30.

The English-language adaptation runs under two hours and features a production by Tony Award–winning director Julie Taymor. Patrick Furrer and Gareth Morrell share conducting duties, leading two casts. On Dec. 8, soprano Janai Brugger and tenor Piotr Buszewski headline the cast as Pamina and Tamino. Soprano Kathryn Lewek returns as Queen of the Night alongside tenors Rolando Villazón and Brenton Ryan reprising the roles of Papageno and Monostatos, bass Brindley Sherratt as Sarastro, and bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi as the Speaker.

On Dec. 15, soprano Liv Redpath makes her Met role debut as Pamina alongside tenor Joshua Blue and bass James Creswell, both making their company role debuts as Tamino and Sarastro. They will be joined by baritone Alexander Birch Elliott as Papageno, bass William Guanbo Su as the Speaker, and tenor Thomas Capobianco as Monostatos. For the matinee performance on Dec. 30, soprano Jeni Houser sings the Queen of the Night.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, at 12 p.m., children and families will be invited to experience the Met’s Holiday Open House, with festive behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage and artistic staff. The event is free to all ticketholders for the day’s performance.

The opera will be broadcast on Dec. 8, 16, and 21 on the SiriusXM app. The Dec. 16 performance will also be broadcast on The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
