Tenor Ryland Davies passed away on Nov. 5, 2023. He was 80-years-old.

Born in Cwm, Ebbw Vale, Davies studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and on the recommendation of Luciano Pavarotti, he continued his studies with Ettore Campogalliani and Luigi Ricci before making his professional debut in 1964 at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

In 1965 he won the John Christie Award in Glyndebourne

He would go on to perform with such companies as the Royal Opera House, Paris Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Metropolitan Opera.

He also recorded and performed under several major conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Carlo Maria Giulini, Herbert von Karajan, Kirill Kondrashin, Sir Simon Rattle, and Mstislav Rostropovich.

He would also go on to teach at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal College of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music.
