Ars Lyrica Houston Unveils 2022-23 Season

Ars Lyrica Houston has announced its 2022-23 season.

It all kicks off with “Hail, Bright Cecilia!” The concert will feature music by Purcell and Händel as performed by Alexandra Gorman, Julia Fox, Jay Carter, Cecilia Duarte, Stephen Ash, Thomas O’Neill, Kirby Traylor, and Christopher Besch.

Performance Date: Sept. 23, 2022

The Red Priest of Venice will focus on music by Vivaldi. Headlining the program will be countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen.

Performance Date: Nov. 12, 2022

Julia Fox, Alexandra Gorman, Michael Skarke, Kyle Stegall, Thomas O’Neill, and Kirby Traylor will star in “A Marian Feast,” a concert showcasing music by Monteverdi, Charpentier, Guillaume Dufay, Isabella Leonarda, Sarah MacDonald, and Hugo Distler.

Performance Date: Dec. 13, 2022

“From China with Love” will feature music by Teodorico Pedrini, Henry Purcell, Jean-Philippe Rameau, and Christoph Willibald Gluck. Per the official press release on the company’s website, “Exotic decorations on cabinets, porcelain vessels, and embroideries imported from China inspired a popular design trend in Baroque Europe, one reflected in various objects in the Rienzi collection and on the harpsichord featured on this program.”

Performance Date: Jan. 29, 2023 

Key’mon Murrah, Lauren Snouffer, and Cecelia McKinley will perform Händel’s “Clori, Tirsi, e Fileno. The performance will also be live streamed.

Performance Date: March 26, 2023

Closing out the season will be “Songs of Zion.” Music by Bach, Buxtehude, and Rameau will be performed by Erica Schuller, Elijah McCormack, Scott Rogers, Steven Brennfleck, Mark Diamond, and Kirby Traylor.

Performance Date: May 13, 2023
