Arcola Theatre Announces 2022 Grimeborn Festival

London’s Arcola Theatre has announced the 2022 edition of the Grimeborn Festival.

It kicks off with “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” in a production featuring Emseble OrQuesta.

Performance Dates: July 26 -30, 2022

Pablo Sorozábal’s “Black, El Payaso” will be presented by The Cervantes Theatre. 

Performance Dates: August 2 – 6, 2022

The Arcola Theatre will join forces with Hackney Empire to present “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung” in an adaptation by Jonathan Dove and Graham Vick.

Performance Dates: August 6 – 7, 2022 

Baseless Fabric Theatre will showcase Leo Geyer’s “Carmen” which reimagines Bizet’s classic work.

Performance Dates: August 9 -13, 2022 

Ethel Smyth’s “The Boatswain’s Mate” will be showcased by Spectra Ensemble.

Performance Dates: August 9 – 13, 2022

Opera Alegria will present “The Magic Flute” by Lindsay Bramley after Mozart.

Performance Dates: August 23 – 27, 2022

Green Opera will present “Bluebeard’s Castle.”

Performance Dates: August 31 – Sept. 3, 2022

Kristina Arakelyan will present her work in progress “Penelope.”

Performance Dates: Sept. 2, 2022 

What More? Productions will showcase “Sumida River” by Kanze Motomasa; the work will feature Japanese and British Sign Language performers.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4, 2022 

Opera at Home will showcase “The Bear / And I Decided” by William Walton and Daniel Felsenfeld.  It will be followed by an after-show talk entitled “Feminism in Contemporary Opera.”

Performance Dates: Sept. 5 – 7, 2022

Stitched-up-theatre will showcase “The Unraveling Fantasia of Miss H.” by Red Gray and Sarah Nicolls. The work is based on the true story of Mary Frances Heaston.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9-10, 2022 

There will also be productions of “HMS Pinafore” and “Sin the Musical.”
