Festival Verdi Receives Premio Franco Abbiati

The Festival Verdi’s proiduction of “Macbeth” from 2020 has won the XXXX Premio Franco Abbiati della Critica Musicale Italiana.

The production, which inaugurated the 10th festival edition on Sept. 11, 2020, was held outdoors at the Parco Ducale. The award, which was announced back in April, was handed out on Nov. 26 in Milan.

The “Macbeth” presentation featured the 1865 Paris version in a critical edition by David Lawton with revisions by Candida Mantica.

The production was conducted by Roberto Abbado and starred Ludovic Tézier (Macbeth), Silvia Dalla Benetta (Lady Macbeth), Riccardo Zanellato (Banquo), Giorgio Berrugi (Macduff), David Astorga (Malcolm), Francesco Leone (Un médecin), Natalia Gavrilan (La Comtesse), Jacobo Ochoa (Un serviteur / Un sicaire / Premier fantôme), Pietro Bolognini (Second fantôme), and Pilar Mezzadri Corona (Troisième fantôme).

Dynamic will produce the CD which is set to be released on Dec. 3, 2021, and will mark the world premiere recording of the 1865 version.
