The Royal Swedish Opera has announced the appointment of Fredrik Lindgren as its new CEO.

Lindgren will replace Birgitta Svendén, who is retiring after 12 years tenure.

Lindgren has worked for the School of Knowledge in Sweden for twelve years, of which nine years as CEO. Prior to that, he held various positions within Investor AB for 12 years. Lindgren has a masters degree in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics and has a musical education from the Stockholm Boys’ Choir, Stockholm’s Music High School and Opera Studio 67.

“I and the Board are very happy that Fredrik Lindgren has accepted the appointment as CEO,” said Chairwoman of the Board Lena Olving in a press statement. “We are convinced that Fredrik, with his documented leadership qualities and his personality, will develop the organization with respect for the employees’ collective knowledge, building on the Birgitta Svendén’s highly successful twelve year tenure,” added Olving.

“I am fortunate to have been able to devote over a decade to one of the most important things in the society – our children’s education,” added Lindgren. “The fact that I also now get the opportunity to work full time with one of my biggest interests in life – music and performing arts in all its forms – feels fantastic,” elaborated Lindgren of his appointment.

Lindgren will assume his new position no later than May 1, 2022, and will formally take over as a new CEO on July 1, 2022.
