Opera singer and voice teacher Eileen Schauler Charone passed away at her home in Millburn on April 21, 2021. She was 92.

Schauler was born in New Jersey in 1928 and throughout her career was admired for her presence on stage, her committed acting, and her emotional and expressive singing. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she made her New York City Opera debut as Katerina Ismaelova in Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mstensk” and would remain a leading singer with the company for 15 years.  She then went on to work as a teacher and coach at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City for over 25 years.

Her career as a singer also took her to Broadway where she made her debut in the title role of “My Darlin Aida.”

“What an indelible impact she has left on this world, on her students and on the audiences that she filled with that dazzling voice,” said Stefani Miller, one of her many students.

“She was an excellent singing teacher and a gift to all of us. She knew the voice inside and out and she knew how to bring out the best in one,” said Kim Dunbar, another of her students.
