French Culture Minister Roselyne Bachelot has been hospitalized after contracting COVID-19.

Per sources of French newspaper “Libération,” Bachelot attended a closed performance of Gounod’s “Faust” at Opéra National de Paris on Friday, March 18, the day before her symptoms developed. The opera will be streamed on March 26, 2021.

Bachelot initially developed breathing problems, but then her symptoms worsened and she had to be hospitalized. At 74 years of age, the French Culture Minister still hasn’t been vaccinated against COVID-19. The French media claim that Bachelot congratulated the artists onstage after the four-hour long presentation of “Faust” and did not adhere to the rules of social distancing in order to take photos with the cast.

Health authorities report that the condition of Roselyne Bachelot is stable and does not give cause for concern at the moment.

The French government has recently announced that it will implement a strict lockdown of Paris and 15 other departments, due to the exponential spread of new variants of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. French opera houses, theaters, and concert venues have been closed since late October 2020.
