On Feb. 21, the Wiener Staatsoper is set to broadcast Bizet’s beloved opera “Carmen.”

The live performance will be presented without an audience and will star Anita Rachvelishvili in her signature role as Carmen and Piotr Beczala as Don José. The cast will also include Erwin Schrott as Escamillo and Vera-Lotte Boecker as Micaëla.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada will conduct the new production by Calixto Bieito.

Audiences can see “Carmen” on ORF III and also on the Wiener Staatsoper’s online streaming platform.

“Carmen” is the latest opera the company performs live without an audience following “Nabucco” with Plácido Domingo, “Tosca” with Anna Netrebko, “Der Rosenkavalier,” and “Werther” starring Piotr Beczala. All the productions have been streamed on ORF III and the company’s free streaming platform.
