The Austrian government has announced that it has further tightened restriction measures that will also affect the number of spectators at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Per Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, only 1,500 visitors will be allowed at outdoors events, and up to 1,000 visitors will be allowed at indoor events. Wearing a face mask is mandatory. Gastronomic offerings will be banned during the events.

The new decision also implies that the Wiener Staatsoper will have to refund around one third of the tickets that were already purchased for its upcoming performances, per sources from Online Merker.

Kurz called the situation across Europe extremely challenging. Regarding his own country, the Austrian Chancellor said, “If the trend continues, we will have 6,000 new infections per day in December.”

Austria has had 65, 927 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The country logged a new daily infections record of 1,747 new cases on Oct. 17, 2020.
