Opera in the Heights has canceled the fall portion of its 2020-21 season.

The company announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it would no longer hold its 25th-anniversary all-star concert or its production of “Il Trovatore.”

“After careful consideration of guidance from public health experts, as well as surveys of our patrons, singers, orchestra, and advisers, Opera in the Heights’s Board of Directors and staff have made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend its fall productions,” the company said in a statement.

The spring season will also be modified to comply with health regulations and social distancing. As a result, “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “Le Nozze di Figaro” will be performed in an outdoor venue. Dates, cast, and venues will be announced at a later date.

This is the latest company to cancel its fall portion of the 2020-21 season, following announcements by the Florentine Opera, New Orleans Opera, and the San Francisco Opera.
