The Metropolitan Opera will hold a special ceremony honoring Plácido Domingo during the Friday, Nov. 23 performance of “Il Trittico.”

Domingo is celebrating his 50^th Anniversary season with the company and he will be presented with a special honor at some juncture during the performance. The legendary artist is set to perform in the title role of the final opera in the set, “Gianni Schicchi.”

The performance will also celebrate the 100^th anniversary of the opera since its world premiere at the Metropolitan Opera on Dec. 14, 1918.

Additionally, the Friday showcase will feature the 50^th Met Opera performance for soprano Kristine Opolais when she takes to the stage as “Suor Angelica.” Finally, Friday will mark the 20^th anniversary of Marcelo Alvarez’s Met career to the date. He debuted with the company back on Nov. 23, 1998.

“Il Trittico” also stars George Gagdnidze (he will complete his 100^th Met performance during the course of the run), Amber Wagner, Stephanie Blythe, the debut of Kristina Mkhitaryan, and Atalla Ayan, among others. Bertrand de Billy will conduct.
