The Mozartists Announce Five New Associate Artists
By David SalazarThe Mozartists have announced five new Associate Artists.
The artists include soprano Bella Marslen, mezzo-soprano Ellen Pearson, countertenor Zheng Jiang, baritone Sam Hird and pianist Yihan Zhao.
Marslen, Pearson and Hird will make their full company debuts in “The Truth About Love” at Cadogan Hall on Jan. 27, 2027, joining current Associate Artists Ava Dodd and Hugo Brady. Presented in celebration of Mozart’s birthday, the program features arias and ensembles from “The Marriage of Figaro,” “The Magic Flute,” “Don Giovanni,” “Così fan tutte,” “Idomeneo” and “La clemenza di Tito,” along with selections from “Il re pastore,” “La finta semplice” and “La finta giardiniera.” Each musical item is preceded by a related poem. Ian Page conducts.
Jiang made his company debut with The Mozartists at Cadogan Hall in January and is currently taking part in Operalia in Shanghai. Zhao is only the second non-singer to become an Associate Artist and will work alongside the company’s singers and instrumentalists in opera repertoire, song recitals, chamber music and solo repertoire.
Marslen is in her final year at the Royal College of Music International Opera School. Pearson and Hird are both in their second year as Jette Parker Artists at the Royal Opera House. Jiang is a member of the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio, where he will sing the title role in Handel’s “Ariodante” in March 2027. Zhao is pursuing an Artist Diploma in collaborative piano at the Royal College of Music.
“In such challenging times for the Arts, it is deeply encouraging to be able to welcome five such gifted, communicative, thoughtful and committed artists into our musical family, and I can’t wait to start working with them not only individually but as a team,”Page, the ensemble’s founder and artistic director, said, per an official press release.
The Associate Artists scheme was launched in 2006 to support young singers in the early stages of their careers. Participants receive performance opportunities with the ensemble, extended rehearsal periods, coaching and career advice from Page, financial support for professional costs, marketing and promotion, and mentorship and training.
