The Philharmonia Orchestra has announced its 2026-27 London season. Here are the vocal performance on offer.
First up is Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9” with Marin Alsop conducting as part of her Global Ode to Joy project. The project reimagines Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9” with new choral music and replaces the eponymous verse with a poetically reimagined version of the libretto for the 21st century. The program also includes Jennifer Higdon’s “blue cathedral” and a choral work by Reena Esmail.
Performance Date: April 22, 2027
Next up is Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali and such soloists as soprano Julie Roset, tenor Brett Sprague, and baritone Germán Olvera. The program also features pianist Hayato Sumino in Gershwin’s “Piano Concerto in F” and opens with Julia Wolfe’s “Fountain of Youth.”
Performance Date: June 3, 2027
