PROTESTRA to Present ‘Opera for Revolution’

By David Salazar

PROTESTRA will present “Opera for Revolution,” a concert of operatic excerpts, on Nov. 1 at Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn.

Led by Music and Artistic Director Michelle Rofrano and Associate Conductor Kamna Gupta, the program features a roster of operatic soloists accompanied by the PROTESTRA Orchestra. The showcase features excerpts from Rossini’s “William Tell,” Puccini’s “Tosca,” Tesori’s “Blue,” Menotti’s “The Consul,” Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” and Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

PROTESTRA will donate a portion of ticket proceeds to Acacia Center for Justice, a nonprofit that supports a national network of human rights defenders providing legal defense to immigrants at risk of detention or deportation. The orchestra will also share educational materials for voters, beginning with a reminder that the voter registration deadline for New York audiences is Oct. 24.

The concert kicks off at 7 p.m. local time.

PROTESTRA is a New York based orchestra that bridges advocacy and classical music. Since 2017, it has held 15 issue centered benefit concerts reaching several thousand in person and online viewers. The ensemble has raised more than $68,000 in audience donations for nonprofit beneficiaries and provided more than $79,000 in paid work to over 300 musicians.
