Laura Ansaldi to Headline Winners Recital at Harvard University

By David Salazar

Italian soprano Laura Ansaldi, First Prize winner of the Special Venue Music Award, will close the Winners’ Recital on Oct. 17 at Memorial Church at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

Ansaldi will be accompanied by pianist Shizue Sano in the 12 p.m. performance. She will sing “Da tempeste il legno infranto” from Händel’s “Giulio Cesare” and “Vissi d’arte” from Puccini’s “Tosca.”

The recital is part of “Tell me a story” and is curated by Carlo Donadio, the former artistic director of the Rome Opera House, who has partnered with the soprano on new classical music projects since his retirement.

“Performing in Harvard, that is one of the most renewed places in the world when it comes to education, culture and history, means a lot to me, and receiving an award for my career makes this debut even more special,” the soprano told OperaWire. “We are living in a time when AI can perfectly reproduce the human voice as well as any musical instrument, and also can perfectly reproduce any piece of music, even the most difficult. It is a challenge for us artists. But there is one thing that AI will be never able to do: to tell a story. A recital is not just performing some pieces, but it is a storytelling. It is my way to tell you the story of my life.”
