Portland Opera Receives Major Grant from Wildhorse Foundation

Portland Opera has received a $10,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to support a Portland Opera To Go school tour of “The Crown Maker” to Umatilla County’s McKay Creek Elementary, Washington Elementary and Hermiston High School.

“The Crown Maker,” which chronicles the life of Mexican American artist, healer and activist Eva Castellanoz, is the third installment in Portland Opera To Go’s “Our Oregon” series, which commissions original works highlighting the stories of unsung women in Oregon history.

“Portland Opera To Go is unique in the Northwest for the breadth of its reach and the depth of its engagement. We can go to places that no other arts organization is currently going, and it is due to the generous support of organizations like the Wildhorse Foundation,” Alexis Hamilton, Associate Director of Education Outreach for Portland Opera, said, per an official press release.

The Wildhorse Foundation, established in 2001 by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, has awarded more than $20 million in grants, drawn from a percentage of revenues from Wildhorse Resort and Casino.
