English Touring Opera has announced its Autumn 2026 tour, running Oct. 9 to Nov. 21 and opening in the company’s home city of Sheffield before traveling to London, Buxton, Snape, Barnstaple, Malvern and Saffron Walden.

The tour features a new production of Gluck’s “Orpheus & Eurydice” alongside a double bill of Elena Langer’s “Ariadne” and Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas,” as well as a new sensory-friendly commission, “Mimi and the Golden Touch,” for SEND pupils and family audiences.

“Orpheus & Eurydice” is directed by Jenny Ogilvie and presented in a new orchestration by Leo Grant that incorporates live electronics and recorded soundworlds. Tenor William Morgan sings the role of Orpheus, soprano Galina Averina sings Eurydice, and soprano Rosie Lomas returns to sing Amore. The cast also includes Isabelle Atkinson, Alexandra Meier, Guy Elliott and Jonathan Eyers. Iwan Davies, Head of Music at Buxton Festival, makes his ETO conducting debut.

The double bill pairs Langer’s 2002 opera “Ariadne,” adapted from a poem by Glynn Maxwell, with Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas.” Jessica Cale sings the title role in “Ariadne,” with countertenor Keiron Connor Valentine voicing the off-stage Theseus. Anna Morrissey directs, with musical direction from Claudia Fuller.

In “Dido & Aeneas,” mezzo-soprano Samantha Price sings Dido and baritone Michael Lafferty makes his company debut as Aeneas, with Isabelle Atkinson as Belinda and Lydia Shariff as Sorceress. Rebecca Meltzer makes her ETO directorial debut, and Alex Robinson leads the ETO orchestra from the harpsichord on period instruments.

The “Orpheus & Eurydice” production will extend into ETO’s Spring 2027 tour, opening in March 2027, with Joe Doody singing the role of Orpheus.
