Opera Carolina Announces New General Director

By David Salazar

Maestro Stefano Vignati, currently Music Director and Principal Conductor of Opera Carolina, will become the company’s General Director.

Vignati recently conducted the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago production of “Turandot” during a tour of China, opening centennial celebrations in Xiamen, Chongqing, and Wuhan in the presence of Christopher L. Green, United States Consul General in Wuhan. This summer, he will conduct the Orchestra of the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova at the Lerici Music Festival, leading the world premiere of “Per Mare,” a symphonic work by composer Roberto Di Marino.

“I am deeply honored to have been entrusted by the Opera Carolina Board of Directors with the opportunity to lead the company not only as Music Director and Principal Conductor, but also as its new General Director,” Vignati said, per a quote provided to OperaWire. “I am truly excited to share my vision for Opera Carolina with the Charlotte community—one that will continue to strengthen the company, expand its international presence, and open a new chapter of collaboration with new partners, new donors, and the entire community. I look forward to working closely with Charlotte’s leading arts organizations, including the Opera Guild of Charlotte, and to building strong partnerships that will help advance Opera Carolina’s mission. I also look forward to meeting and reengaging our Verdi Society  and Seaon Ticket Holders in person. Our supporters have been such an important part of Opera Carolina’s life and history for many years, and I am excited to begin working together to build an even brighter future for our company.”

Architect Paul E. Kardous, a longtime supporter of the organization, has been named Chair of the Board of Directors and will work alongside Vignati and the board on the company’s next phase.
