Conductor Elim Chan has been appointed as Artistic Partner at Wiener Symphoniker for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

In this role, Chan will lead the orchestra in performances of ballets, orchestral works at the Wiener Konzerthaus and Musikverein, and more. Previously, Chan participated the Orchestra’s Bregenz residency.

Chan has served as Principal Conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. She was a Dudamel Fellow at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Chan was also the first female winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition.

In a press release Chan says, “When I first had the opportunity to work with the orchestra, I fell in love with them immediately. I also love this contrast between the freshness and immediacy of the programmed music, the invited artists and the city itself, which feels a bit like a time capsule. It is precisely these conditions that give me the courage to be particularly bold here and to think: we can break all the molds. And I have the feeling that the Wiener Symphoniker is always ready to take such a risk.”
