
Teatro alla Scala Announces Operas for 2026-27 Season
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro alla Scala has revealed the operas that will be performed during the 2026-27 season.
As previously reported the company will open with “Otello” in a new production by Damiano Michieletto.
The company will also showcase the company premiere of “Leonora” by Ferdinando Paër in a production by Daniele Menghini and conducted by Roland Böer.
Valentina Carasco will direct the company premiere of John Adams’ “Nixon in China” with Kent Nagano.
The season will also include a new production of “Macbeth” by Barrie Kosky under the direction of Chung, a new production of “Don Quichotte,” also directed by Michieletto and conducted by Bertrand De Billy.
Daniel Oren will conduct a revival of “La Bohème,” while Arnauld Bernard will direct Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de perles ” conducted by Henrik Nànàsi.
Francesco Ivan Ciampa will conduct Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena” in a production by Chiara Muti, while “I Puritani” returns after 55 years, under the direction of Fabio Luisi in a production by Davide Livermore.
Riccardo Chailly will conduct “The Rake’s Progress” in a production by Kasper Holten. The company will also revive Robert Carsen’s production of “Don Giovanni” conducted by Thomas Guggeis, while Leo Muscato will direct a production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Giulio Cilona conducting. Finally Marcos Morau will direct the Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” with Gianluca Capuano conducting.
