
‘Lincoln in the Bardo’ Set for the Silver Screen Following Opera’s World Premiere
By Francisco SalazarAfter the Metropolitan Opera announced the upcoming world premiere of “Lincoln in the Bardo,” a film adaptation was also announced.
According to Variety, the George Saunders novel will be adapted into a film that will star Tom Hanks as the 16th U.S. President. Saunders is adapting the novel with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Duke Johnson set to direct and produce.
Johnson, Paul Young and Devon Young Rabinowitz are producing for Starburns Industries. Steven Shareshian, Aaron Mitchell and Saunders will serve as executive producers.
The opera was commissioned by the Met and composed by Missy Mazzoli and librettist Royce Vavrek. “Lincoln in the Bardo” will open on October 19 and will star Christine Goerke, Peter Mattei, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Janai Brugger, and Stephanie Blythe.
