The Juilliard School will present “AXIOM: Kurtág @ 100” on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Alice Tully Hall.

Jeffrey Milarsky leads Juilliard’s new music ensemble AXIOM in a centennial celebration of Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Soprano Kerrigan Bigelow, soprano Fantine Douilly, pianist Heting Xia, and violinist Tianyou Ma are the featured soloists.

The program opens with “The Iron Mass,” a new work for soprano and chamber orchestra by Juilliard composition student Vincent Zhang, commissioned by the school for the occasion. The program also includes Parts III and IV of Kurtág’s “Kafka-Fragmente,” the 40-movement song cycle for soprano and violin dedicated to the psychologist he worked with during his time in Paris in the late 1950s, along with “Brefs Messages,” Op. 4 and “…quasi una fantasia…,” Op. 27, No. 1.

The concert is part of The New Series, now in its fourth season, conceived and programmed by Artistic Director David Serkin Ludwig.

A preconcert lecture led by DMA student Amber Ginmi Scherer will take place at 6:15 p.m. in Room 105 of Juilliard’s Diamond Building.

Later in the season, the series will also feature “Juilliard Pride Songbook, Vol. 3” on May 3, 2026.
