Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Heidi Stober, Amina Edris, Adela Zaharia, Brian Mulligan Headline San Francisco Opera’s 2026-27 Season

San Francisco Opera has announced its 2026–27 season, the Company’s 104th.

The season opens with Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra,” conducted by Music Director Eun Sun Kim in a new-to-San-Francisco-Opera production by Claus Guth. Baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat sings the title role, with Eleonora Buratto as Amelia, Christian Van Horn as Fiesco, and Joshua Guerrero as Gabriele Adorno.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12–27, 2026.


Musgrave’s “Mary, Queen of Scots” receives its San Francisco Opera mainstage premiere in a co-production with English National Opera. Clelia Cafiero conducts Stewart Laing’s staging, starring soprano Heidi Stober in the title role, with Thomas Mole, Thomas Kinch, and Christopher Sokolowski.

Performance Dates: Sept. 20–Oct. 4, 2026.


Eun Sun Kim conducts Massenet’s “Manon” in Vincent Boussard’s production, with soprano Amina Edris and tenor Pene Pati as Manon and Des Grieux.

Performance Dates: Oct. 15–Nov. 1, 2026.


Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” returns in Michael Cavanagh’s production, directed by Shawna Lucey and conducted by Sebastian Weigle in his Company debut. The cast includes Slávka Zámečníková, Olivia Smith, Simone McIntosh, Peter Kellner, and Thomas Mole.

Performance Dates: Oct. 31–Nov. 29, 2026.


Kim and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra present “Strauss in Concert,” featuring soprano Adela Zaharia in an all-Richard Strauss program.

Performance Date: Nov. 6, 2026.


In Summer 2027, Kim conducts Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” in Francesca Zambello’s production, marking the Company’s first step toward full Ring cycles in 2028. Brian Mulligan stars as Wotan, with Falk Struckmann as Alberich and Judit Kutasi as Fricka.

Performance Dates: May 29–June 22, 2027.


Puccini’s “Tosca” returns in Shawna Lucey’s production, conducted by Clelia Cafiero and starring Rachel Willis-Sørensen in the title role, alongside Quinn Kelsey and Riccardo Massi.

Performance Dates: June 4–July 2, 2027.


Concerts

The season also features its the annual Opera in the Park concert

Performance Date: Sept. 13, 2026.


Also on the slate is the Adler Fellows Showcase.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2026.


There will be a Chorus Concert led by John Keene.

Performance Date: Nov. 22, 2026


The final concert of the year is the Pride Concert celebrating San Francisco Pride Weekend.
Performance Date: June 25, 2027.
