
Opera Philadelphia to Present ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ Screening
By Francisco SalazarOn Nov. 10, Opera Philadelphia will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the release of Rupert Julian’s 1925 silent film classic “The Phantom of the Opera.”
The screening will include a free organ concert at the Grand Court of the Wanamaker Building on Nov. 10, at 7:00 p.m.
Principal Organist Peter Richard Conte will provide live accompaniment to the silent horror classic as part of the Opera’s ongoing PIPE UP! series.
The 1925 silent film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel of the same name stars Lon Chaney in the title role of the hideously deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star.
The event is free, and no registration is required. Seating is first-come, first-served.
