Resonance Works to Perform ‘The Jungle Book’
By Francisco SalazarResonance Works will continue its season with the Pittsburgh premiere of “The Jungle Book.”
The work by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist Kelley Rourke will be performed between Nov. 21–23, 2025, at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie, PA.
“The Jungle Book” is a reimagining of Rudyard Kipling’s classic story and follows Mowgli, an endangered human cub who finds refuge with a pack of wolves in the jungle and discovers the meaning of family, empathy, and belonging.
In a statement, Maria Sensi Sellner, Artistic & General Director of Resonance Works said, “At its core, The Jungle Book is about embracing those who are different; about seeing beauty and value in those we think we have little in common with. In a time when the division in our world feels overwhelming, this story reminds us of ‘the heart that beats in all of us.’”
The production will star Lianne Fileta as Mowgli, Hudson Vasquez Schmitt as Little Brother, and Chicago-based tenor Karlos Piñero-Mercado as the formidable tiger Shere Khan.
The cast will also include mezzo-soprano Timothi Williams, bass-baritone Sergio Martinez, soprano Samina Aslam, and Adrianna Cleveland.
