The upcoming concert at Semperoper Dresden will put the spotlight on works by Scandinavian composers.
The “Semper Soirée Nordlichter” will celebrate the diverse musical voices of Scandinavia, taking listeners on an inspiring journey across Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark. The program features lyrical songs from the 19th and 20th centuries by Jean Sibelius, Edvard Grieg, Hugo Alfvén, Ture Rangström, Oskar Merikanto, Lars-Erik Larsson, and Wilhelm Peterson-Berger as well as other composers whose works are rarely heard in Germany.
The program will also offer a glimpse of contemporary Scandinavian composer Hans Abrahamsen’s “The Snow Queen.” The opera based on Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale will make its Semperoper Dresden premiere on Dec. 7.
Nicole Chirka, Michal Doron, Magdalena Lucjan, Anton Beliaev, Neven Crnić, and Oleksandr Pushniak will perform songs which evoke the sea and the particular light of the north as well as a sense of longing. Johannes Wulff-Woesten will conduct from the piano.
The “Semper Soirée Nordlichter” will take place on Nov. 2, 2025 and begin at 8 pm.
