Houston Grand Opera has named Astley Blair to the position of Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

He started his tenure on August 1, 2025, and it runs through August 1, 2027.

Blair has been a subscriber of the company for more than two decades and joined the Board of Directors in 2004. Blair chaired the Audit Committee and also served on the Board’s Audiences, Philanthropy, and Management Evaluation and Development Committee. He joined the Strategic Advisory Group in 2024.

“We have been pursuing grand dreams at HGO, and—powered by our belief in our art form—realizing bold growth as a company,” said General Director and CEO Khori Dastoor per an official press release. “With Astley Blair assuming leadership of the HGO Board, I see no limit to what we can achieve. Astley brings with him a wealth of global business expertise gained during a dynamic career in the financial and energy sectors, and an entrepreneurial spirit that makes him the perfect choice to help lead HGO through a time of thrilling possibility. I’m honored to welcome him as my partner as together, we chart the course forward for this great institution.”

Blair takes over for Claire Liu, who just completed a three-year term.

In addition to his contributions to Houston Grand Opera, Blair is a member of the Boards of the Houston Airport System Development Corporation and the American Leadership Forum.
