By Francisco Salazar

The Bayreuth Festival has announced a cast change for its August 14 performance of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.”

The company said that “Georg Zeppenfeld is unable to take on the role of Hans Sachs due to illness. He will perform the role scenically; Nicholas Brownlee will sing the part.”

Meanwhile, “Matthias Stier is also unable to perform for health reasons. The role of David will be taken over at short notice by Ya-Chung Huang, who has already appeared this season as the Second Nobleman in ‘Lohengrin’ and as Mime in ‘Das Rheingold’ and ‘Siegfried.'”

Finally, “Marek Reichert will take over the role of Konrad Nachtigal from Werner Van Mechelen. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the artists who are stepping in.”

They will join a cast that includes Jongmin Park, Michael Nagy, Jordan Shanahan, Daniel Jenz, Matthew Newlin, Gideon Poppe, Michael Spyres, Christina Nilsson, and Tobias Kehrer. Daniele Gatti conducts the production by Matthias Davids.
