Weekend Preview – International (6/30-7/2): Vienna State Opera Ends Its Season While Plácido Domingo Graces The Mariinsky Theatre

Two companies’ seasons end this weekend with a number of stars continuing runs of important works.

Austria

The Wiener Staatsoper will showcase Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” starring Franz-Josef Selig, Bernarda Fink, Adrian Eröd, Simon Keenlyside and Olga Bezsmertna ending the season.

Czech Republic

The Prague Summer Nights festival continues with Opera scenes and the opening of   Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”

France

At the Opéra de Paris, Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” will continue its run as well as Bizet’s “Carmen” with Anita Rachvelishivili.

The Theatre du Capitôle will end its run of Meyerbeer’s “Le Prophète” with John Osborn, Sofia Fomina and Kate Aldrich.

Germany 

The Bayerische Staatsoper will present a Live stream of Franz Schreker’s “Die Gezeichneten” and Strauss’ “Die Frau ohne Schatten” starring Ricarda Merbeth and Michaela Schuster.

As for the Berlin Staatsoper, the company will continue its run of Bizet’s “Les Pecheurs de Perles” starring Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti and Francesco Demuro. The opera will be presented twice during the weekend.

Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov” continues run as well as Verdi’s “Don Carlo” with Lianna Haroutounian at the Deutsche Berlin Oper.

Italy

Ailyn Pérez begins her run of Puccini’s “La Bohème” at the Teatro alla Scala, which will also present Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio.”

At the Arena di Verona, Verdi’s “Aida” with Violetta Urmana and Carlo Ventre will be presented as well as Verdi’s “Rigoletto” with Elena Mosuc and Andrea Mastroni.

Meanwhile at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Bizet’s “Carmen” gets a new production by Valentina Carrasco starring Veronica Simeoni and Roberto Aronica.

Russia

The Bolshoi Opera will present Bizet’s “Carmen” starring Yulia Mazurova as well as excerpts from Mozart’s “Idomeneo.”

Plácido Domingo and Ekaterina Semenchuk star in Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Mariinsky Theatre. The company will also present Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta.”

Spain

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will take the stage at the Teatro Real with Ermenola Jaho. The opera will also be broadcast in cinemas.

Rossini’s “Tancredi” will end its run at the Palau de les Arts with Daniela Barcellona and Jessica Pratt while the Liceu ends its showcase of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Carlos Alvarez and Mariusz Kwiecien alternating the last two shows.

United Kingdom 

Atalla Ayan and Corinne Winters continues performing Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Royal Opera House as well as Mozart’s “Mitridate, re di Ponto.” On Sunday, Verdi’s “Otello” returns to the stage with Jonas Kaufmann, Maria Agresta leading the cast.
