Stone Brewing In Berlin Presents ‘La Bohème’

By David Salazar

Berlin features some of the most prominent opera companies in the business. But this week, a fifth company is taking the spotlight.

The Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens Berlin, a famed restaurant with more than 50 craft and artisanal beers, is set to showcase Puccini’s “La Bohème” on May 31, June 1 and 2. The three-day event will be directed by the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s ensemble member Andrew Dickenson, who will put a modern spin on the Puccini classic by setting it in modern day Berlin. He will also use the entirety of the restaurant for his staging.

The performance will feature such artists as Micaëla Oeste, Cathy Di Zhang, HyunSik Shin, Dean Murphy, Alexander Robin Baker, and Andrew Harris with conductor Elda Laro leading the Stone Opera Orchestra.

“Last summer I visited Stone Berlin for the first time and fell in love with the space almost immediately,” said Andrew Dickinson in a press release. “By chance, Greg Koch, Stone Brewing co-founder was also there. I asked him if he was open to the idea of transforming their amazing bistro into an opera dinner theater. He was intrigued, said yes and here we are! Thanks to the support of Stone Brewing we have been able to assemble a phenomenal cast of singers and musicians for ‘La Bohème.’ As an artistic space, Stone Brewing has enormous potential for the Berlin arts community.”

All shows begin at 7 p.m. local time and will feature two one-hour acts.
