Sondra Radvanovsky Takes Home 2017 Dora Award

Sondra Radvanovsky’s big year continues, as the soprano was among the winners of the 2017 Dora Awards.

She was given the award for Outstanding Female Performance for her interpretation of “Norma” at the Canadian Opera Company. She beat out Jane Archibald in “Ariodante” at COC, Christine Goerke in Götterdämmerung at COC, Carla Huhatanen in “Rocking Horse Winner at a Tapestry Opera and Adrianne Pieczonka in “Tosca” at COC.

The “Norma” production also picked up victories in Outstanding Costume Design and Scenic Design as well while Johannes Debus won Outstanding Musical Direction for his work in “Götterdämmerung.”

“Rocking Horse Winner” won the Outstanding Production award while Asitha Tennekoon was the winner of the Outstanding Male Performance for his work in that very opera. He beat out such singers as Ain Anger, Andreas Schager, Russell Braun and Marcelo Puente, all of whom performed at the Canadian Opera Company this season. “Rocking House Winner” also took home the best Ensemble Award, Outstanding Lighting Design, and the Outstanding Direction award. However, it did not win the Outstanding New Musical / Opera award, which was handed to “Come From Away.”
