The Royal Opera House was evacuated on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

According to the BBC, cast members and audiences were evacuated from the Royal Opera House in London after a fire alarm went off mid-performance of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.” According to the theater, the interruption was a false alarm and the show had to be restarted. Many took to Twitter, where they commented on the event.

It is the second day in a row where the Royal Opera House has had an interesting event happen during its performance. Just the day before, the company had to cancel its performance of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” when Kristin Lewis was hospitalized. As a result, the company performed scenes from Act 1 and 2 because there was no understudy for Lewis. It was the last performance of the run and the company refunded all its audience members.

The company also announced recently that it would be implementing higher security after the terror attack during an Ariana Grande concert that saw numerous dead and injured.

“L’Elisir d’Amore” is currently starring Pretty Yende, Liparit Avetisyan, and Alex Esposito.  A later run is set to star Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak.
