As the result, the company has announced that Rafael Dávila will sing the title role.

This is the third time that Dávila takes the stage in this production. He also replaced Thomas on Nov. 7, 2022 and Nov. 30, 2022.

He joins a cast that includes Angela Meade as Elisabetta, Peter Mattei as Posa, Günther Groissböck as Philip II, John Relyea as the Grand Inquisitor, and Yulia Matochkina as Eboli. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production by Sir. David McVicar.

Thomas returns to the stage on Dec. 12 for a production of “La Forza del Destino” at the Paris Opera.
