Pretty Yende as made the InStyle Magazine’s The Badass 50.

The list was launched to celebrate those who are brave, brilliant, and, most importantly, consistent. This year’s list is the first time in what InStyle hopes to be consistent and which will honor spectacular women.

Yende noted in a quote for the magazine, “I never thought anyone who looked like me could learn [opera] and inspire other girls to do the same, but the color of my skin doesn’t matter. The pure joy of singing and breaking boundaries while sharing it makes me the most proud.”

Yende joins such superstars as Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Patty Jenkins,  Janet Mock, J.K. Rowling, Constance Wu, Margaret Atwood, Kamala Harris, Emma Watson, and Daniela Vega, among others.

The issue will be available on July 6.
