Opera Toledo Remembers Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in ‘I Dream’

By David Salazar

Opera Toledo is set to showcase Douglas Tappin’s “I Dream” starting on April 6, 7, and 8 at the Valentine Theatre.

The production will also feature a Student Night performance on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

The work recounts the final 36 hours in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“We at Toledo Opera are committed to playing our part as citizens who believe in an embracing community that respects and welcomes all. While our role may be a small one in the grand scheme, through the power of music and theater, perhaps we can change one attitude or one perspective, which may, in turn, change others,” the company says on its official website.

The work will feature Derrick Davis as King with Laquita Mitchell as Coretta, Kristy Swann as Grandma, Kenneth Overton as Ralph, and Victor Ryan Robertson as Hosea.

The production will be directed by Daniel Goldstein.
