Opera National Du Rhin’s 2018-19 Season To Feature Julie Fuchs, Anne-Catherine Gillet, & Yijie Shi

The Opera National du Rhin’s 2018-19 season has been announced and with it, there are a number of new productions, recitals, and festival programs that will provide a diverse amount of operatic events.

Productions 

The opera season opens with Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” starring Yijie Shi, Leon Kosavic, Marina Viotti, and Carlo Lepore. Michele Gamba conducts the new production by Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18-Oct. 9, 2018 

Soloists of the opera studio join forces for “Singing Garden,” featuring the music of David Lang, Francisco Alvarado, Toshio Hosokawa, and Elena Langer. Claire Levacher conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25-27, 2018

Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” gets a new production by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet. Jacques Imbrailo and Anne-Catherine Gillet star in the lead roles with Franck Ollu conducting.

Performance Dates: Oct. 19-Nov. 11, 2018

Offenbach’s rarely performed “Barkouf ou un Chien au pouvoir” is set to star Rodolphe Briand, Nicolas Cavallier, and Patrick Kabongo. Jacques Lacombe conducts Mariame Clément’s new production.  

Performance Dates: Dec. 7, 2018-Jan.8, 2019

Leonard Evers’ “Le Garçon et le poisson magique” will be the featured musical of the season. Cast to be announced later.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19, 2018-Jan. 27, 2019

Giovanni Legrenzi’s “La divisione del mondo” will star Carlo Allemano, Stuart Jackson, and Andre Morsch in a new production by Jetske Mijnssen. Christophe Rousset conducts the production.

Performance Dates: Feb. 8-March 9, 2019 

Mariano Pensotti directs a new production of Alberto Ginastera’s “Beatrix Cenci” with Leticia de Altamirano, Ezgi Kutlu, Josy Santos, Gezim Myshketa, Xavier Moreno, and Dionysos Idis.

Performance Dates: March 17-April 7, 2019

Lenneke Ruiten and Jussi Myllys star in Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz.” The opera will be directed by Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito and conducted by Patrick Lange. 

Performance Dates: April 17-May 19, 2019

Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga’s “La Princesse arabe” will get a new production Benoît De Leersnyder with Marta Bauzà, Tristan Blanchet, and Claire Péron.

Performance Dates: May 26-June 18, 2019

The season concludes with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in a new production by Marie-Eve Signeyrole. Nikolay Borchev, Michael Nagl, Jeanine De Bique, Sophie Marilley, Alexander Sprague, Patrick Bolleire, and Anaïs Yvoz star.

Performance Dates: June 15-July 7, 2019

Recitals 

The season will also include a number recitals from Julie Fuchs, Simon Keenlyside, Marliss Petersen, Christianne Stotijn, Véronique Gens, and Armando Noguera.

Festival Arsmondo

Astor Piazzolla’s ever-popular “Maria de Buenos Aires” will receive a new production conducted by Nicolas Agullo, with Ana Karina Rossi, Stefan Sbonnik, and Alejandro Guyot.
