Opera Columbus has announced its 2018-19 season, which is set to include three productions. Among them is a world premiere in the Southern Theatre.

Here is a look at what to expect.

The season opens with Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” in a production by an all-women creative team. The production will be a modern, tradition-breaking interpretation that should captivate audiences.

Performance Dates: Sept. 28 – 30, 2018

Up next Opera Columbus will showcase the world premiere of “The Flood,” a co-commission work by Opera Columbus and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. The opera was composed by Korine Fujiwara with a libretto by Stephen Wadsworth and tells the story of human connection through loss and shared tragedy, centered around the devastation of Columbus’ Franklinton neighborhood in the Great Flood of 1913.

Performance Dates: February 8 – 10, 2019

The final production of the season will be “Opera Swings Jazz.” It will be a concert in collaboration with Jazz Arts Group, combining the incredible sounds of opera with jazz.

Performance Dates: April 12 – 14, 2019
