Müpa Budapest to Stream ‘Daphne’

Müpa Budapest is set to stream R. Strauss’ opera “Daphne” on April 24, 2021.

The perform from 2015 stars Polina Pasztircsák in the title role, Ric Furman as Apollo, Andrea Ulbrich as Gaea, Krisztián Cser as Peneios, and István Horváth as Leukippos. The Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and National Choir will be conducted by Zoltán Kocsis in a prouction by Csaba Némedi.

Audiences can watch the rarely-performed Strauss work on the company’s YouTube page.

“Daphne” is based on the story from Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” and includes elements taken from “The Bacchae” by Euripides. The opera premiered in 1938 at the Semperoper Dresden.

Over the past months, Müpa Budapest has streamed a number of programs including a celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, operas, and jazz concerts.
