The Merola Opera Program has announced its 61st season, which will kick off with the Schwabacher Summer Concert on July 5 in San Francisco.

There is also expected to be a follow-up showcase on July 7, 2018.

The concerts will feature a wide range of scenes from such operas as “Vanessa,” “Il Tabarro,” “Don Giovanni,” and “Les Pêcheurs de Perles.”

The concert will be conducted by Kathleen Kelly, who is the first woman and first American ever named to the post of Director of Musical Studies at the Vienna State Opera. Kelly is a former alumnus of the program.

The showcase will be directed by another Merola alum, Aria Umezawa, who is completing her second year as a San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow. She is also the first director awarded the fellowship.
