Mariella Devia To Say Goodbye To Opera Stage With Major Prize

Mariella Devia will be awarded the “Premio Una vita nella musica 2018” this coming May.

The soprano will be presented with the accolade on May 14, 2018, at the Sale Apollinee of Teatro La Fenice where she will be performing “Norma.” Devia has announced that after the “Norma” performances she will be retiring from the Opera stage and will dedicate her career to singing concerts and teaching.

With the award, Devia will join such prestigious figures as Daniel Barenboim, Ruggero Raimondi, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Karl Böhm, Carlo Maria Giulini, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Carlo Bergonzi, among others to have received the prestigious award.

In anticipation of the awards ceremony, the Teatro La Fenice will celebrate Devia’s career by posting archival videos and photos on social media and WebRadio della Fenice will broadcast archival performances of the soprano’s legendary career.

Devia has been a huge presence in the opera world for the past 40 years. She made her debut at La Fenice in 1978, becoming a big star at the theater. She went on to sing in every major international theater and has since been recognized for her interpretations in the Bel Canto repertoire.
